Needlepunch Polypropylene Nonwoven Fabric — Mechanically Bonded Felt
Allzone Trading supplies needlepunch polypropylene nonwoven fabric to converters, geotextile users and manufacturers in Ontario, Quebec and across Canada. The web is bonded mechanically by barbed needles, with no binder and no melting, which keeps the material thick, permeable and chemically simple. Basis weight, width, finish and colour are specified against the application and confirmed against supplier technical data at quotation.

Technical & procurement detail
What needlepunch polypropylene is+
Staple polypropylene fibres are carded into a web and then bonded by thousands of barbed needles that drag fibres through the thickness of the web and entangle them. No binder and no heat bonding is required, so the material stays lofty, permeable and chemically as inert as the polymer itself. Density and strength come from needling intensity and web weight rather than from an added chemistry.
Finish options+
The felt can be supplied as-needled, calendared to compress and smooth one or both faces, or infrared-bonded to stabilise the surface. Finish changes thickness, permeability, surface abrasion behaviour and how the material feeds through downstream converting equipment, so it is specified with the application rather than chosen afterwards.
Why polypropylene rather than polyester+
Polypropylene resists moisture, most acids and alkalis, and is lighter for the same volume, which is why it dominates geotextile and wet industrial uses. Polyester holds up better at higher continuous temperature and under sustained load. The polymer choice is made from the service condition, not from price alone; both are supplied as separate canonical materials.
How specifications vary+
Basis weight, thickness, density, tensile and elongation, permeability, fibre denier, colour, UV behaviour and roll dimensions all vary with the manufacturing specification. Geotextile performance in particular depends on the complete design and the site condition and must not be inferred from a fabric weight alone. No fixed technical values are published here.
What to include in your enquiry+
Send the basis weight, roll width, roll length and quantity you need, together with the application. Where relevant, state whether the material will be exposed to sunlight, whether a calendared or infrared-bonded finish is required, the permeability or filtration duty expected, and any strength value your specification calls for.
Documentation and specification+
Allzone confirms basis weight, finish and composition with the supplier before quoting and shares the technical data for the exact material offered. Certifications and performance approvals are only stated where supplier documentation supports them.
Frequently asked questions
What is needlepunch polypropylene nonwoven used for?+
It is used for nonwoven geotextile separation and drainage layers, filtration media and filter support, automotive backing and acoustic layers, industrial padding and wiping felt, and converted backing layers.
What does calendared or infrared-bonded finish change?+
Both compress or stabilise the surface, reducing thickness and surface fibre movement and changing permeability and machine handling. The right finish depends on the downstream process.
Is this the same as a certified geotextile?+
No. Geotextile performance depends on the complete design and installation. Any specification or approval requirement is verified against supplier documentation for the exact material before it is offered.
Which basis weight should I order?+
Basis weight follows from the duty and the converting process, not from a standard list. Share the application and a suitable range is confirmed with technical data.
What quantities are quoted?+
Quantities are reviewed per enquiry, from trial rolls through to full production programmes.
