What spunlace is+
A fibre web is carried under rows of fine, high-pressure water jets that entangle the fibres through the thickness of the web. Nothing is added: no binder, no adhesive, no melt bonding. That is why spunlace is chosen where a soft, textile-like hand and a chemically clean web matter — the fabric is held together by the fibres themselves.
Flat, apertured and non-apertured+
The jets can be run against a flat surface for a smooth web, or against a patterned belt to open a defined aperture pattern in the fabric. Apertured material drains and releases liquid differently, has a different surface texture and a different tensile profile. The construction is specified with the application, not swapped afterwards.
Fibre blends+
Spunlace is produced from several fibre types and from blends of them — viscose, polyester, polypropylene and cellulosic fibres among others — and the blend controls absorbency, strength, lint behaviour and cost. There is no single spunlace specification: an absorbent wiping cloth and a strong impregnation substrate are different blends of the same process.
