White masterbatch is specified by the combination of carrier resin, TiO2 type and loading, dispersion quality and the process it will run on. Buyers comparing offers are usually comparing those four variables rather than a single product name.

  • Blown film — opacity and hiding power at low film gauge, where poor dispersion shows up immediately as gels or pinholes

Selection

How the right grade is chosen

  • Carrier resin compatibility with the base polymer — a PE-carried masterbatch is not a drop-in for a PP process, and vice versa
  • TiO2 type: rutile grades are normally chosen for durability and outdoor exposure; anatase behaves differently under UV
  • TiO2 loading against the target let-down ratio — a higher loading is only economical if dispersion at that ratio is proven
  • Melt flow of the carrier versus the melt flow of the base resin, to avoid streaking
  • Whether the finished article needs food-contact documentation, which must be established before the grade is fixed
