Styrene Acrylic Emulsion — Waterborne Copolymer Binder

Styrene acrylic emulsions are copolymer dispersions that combine acrylic durability with the hardness, water resistance and cost position that styrene brings. Allzone supplies them to Canadian coatings, adhesive and construction manufacturers with the grade confirmed against supplier documentation.

Functional role of styrene acrylic emulsion+

Styrene contributes hardness, water resistance and scrub resistance at lower cost than a pure acrylic, at the expense of some exterior UV durability — styrene units are prone to chalking on prolonged sun exposure. That trade-off makes the class the workhorse binder for interior and protected applications.

Selecting the right grade+

Styrene-acrylic ratio, glass transition temperature, solids and stabilisation system determine hardness, alkali resistance and application behaviour. Exposure conditions are the deciding factor: extended direct sunlight generally points to a pure acrylic instead.

Documentation and specification+

Properties differ between producers and between grades of the same material. Allzone confirms the applicable grade with the supplier before quoting and shares the technical data sheet and safety data sheet for the exact material offered, so the values you evaluate are the values you receive.

Frequently asked questions

Can styrene acrylic be used for exterior coatings?+

It is used in exterior systems, but styrene content increases chalking risk under sustained UV exposure. For long-life exterior finishes a pure acrylic is usually specified; the supplier confirms suitability for the exposure you describe.

Which grade will I be quoted?+

The grade is set by your specification. Share the target performance, process conditions and any customer or regulatory requirement in the RFQ and the matching grade is confirmed with the supplier before quotation.

What packaging is available?+

Packaging is confirmed with the supplier at quotation for the grade and quantity discussed.

Can you deliver across Ontario and Quebec?+

Yes. LTL and FTL freight is arranged across Ontario, Quebec and Western Canada, with container-direct supply for repeat volumes.
