Dispersing Agent — Coatings & Ink Additive
Dispersing agents stabilise pigment and filler particles in liquid coatings, inks and pigment concentrates so that colour strength, gloss and viscosity stay where the formulation intends. Allzone supplies dispersant chemistries to Canadian coatings and ink formulators with the grade confirmed against supplier documentation.

Technical & procurement detail
Functional role of dispersing agent+
A dispersing agent adsorbs onto the pigment surface and holds the deagglomerated particles apart, electrostatically, sterically or both. Without it, grinding energy is wasted because particles reflocculate as soon as shear stops — showing up as colour drift, seeding, gloss loss and viscosity build in the can.
Selecting the right grade+
Selection depends on the resin system (waterborne, solventborne or UV), the pigment type — inorganic, organic or carbon black — and whether the product is a millbase concentrate or a direct-grind paint. High-surface-area organic pigments and carbon blacks demand markedly more dispersant than titanium dioxide or extenders.
Documentation and specification+
Properties differ between producers and between grades of the same material. Allzone confirms the applicable grade with the supplier before quoting and shares the technical data sheet and safety data sheet for the exact material offered, so the values you evaluate are the values you receive.
Frequently asked questions
How much dispersant does a formulation need?+
Dose is normally set against pigment surface area rather than total formula weight, which is why carbon black and organic pigments require several times the loading of titanium dioxide. Supplier starting ladders are shared with the technical data sheet.
Which grade will I be quoted?+
The grade is set by your specification. Share the target performance, process conditions and any customer or regulatory requirement in the RFQ and the matching grade is confirmed with the supplier before quotation.
What packaging is available?+
Packaging is confirmed with the supplier at quotation for the grade and quantity discussed.
Can you deliver across Ontario and Quebec?+
Yes. LTL and FTL freight is arranged across Ontario, Quebec and Western Canada, with container-direct supply for repeat volumes.
