Functional role of polycarboxylate ether superplasticizer+
PCE is a comb polymer whose backbone adsorbs onto cement particles while its side chains create steric repulsion. That repulsion disperses the cement far more efficiently than older sulfonate chemistries, so the same workability is reached at a much lower water-to-cement ratio and the hardened strength rises accordingly.
Selecting the right grade+
PCE products are engineered for either high early water reduction or extended slump retention, and the two behave very differently in a hot pour. Cement source, target slump life, ambient temperature range and whether the product is dosed as liquid or redispersed in a dry mix determine which architecture is quoted.
