Micro fibre and macro fibre do different jobs+

Micro fibre is fine and dosed at low rates; it works in the first hours, bridging the plastic concrete as it shrinks and preventing early cracks from forming. Macro fibre is coarser and dosed far higher; it works after the concrete has cracked, transferring load across the crack and providing residual toughness. Buying one when the design needed the other is the most common mistake in this category.

What fibre does not do+

Dispersed fibre is not a substitute for designed structural reinforcement unless a qualified engineer has specified it as such on the basis of tested performance. In decorative and thin-section work its value is crack control, durability of the finish and handling robustness — real benefits, but not a replacement for structural design.

Dosage, workability and finishing+

Higher dosage increases water demand and reduces slump; correcting that with extra water weakens the concrete and cancels the benefit, so a water reducer is the correct adjustment. Fibres at the surface can be visible on trowelled and exposed finishes, which matters in architectural work and should be trialled on a sample panel.

Mixing practice+

Fibre is added so that it disperses fully without balling, typically to the wet mix at moderate shear for a defined mixing time. Under-mixing leaves clumps that act as defects; over-mixing wastes time and can damage some fibre types. Follow the supplier's addition sequence for the fibre supplied.

Specification options+

Working properties are configurable options within this canonical product, not separate products. Depending on the family, that can include grade, viscosity, mix ratio, pot life and demould time, hardness, colour, particle size or fibre length, and pack format. No configuration is presented as stocked or approved until it is confirmed against the supplier's technical data for the exact material offered. Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between micro and macro fibre?+

Micro fibre controls plastic shrinkage cracking in the first hours at low dosage; macro fibre provides post-crack toughness at much higher dosage. They solve different problems.

Does PP fibre replace steel reinforcement?+

Not unless an engineer has specified it on the basis of tested performance for that application. In decorative work its role is crack control and durability.

Will fibres show on the finished surface?+

They can on trowelled or exposed faces, which matters in architectural work. Trial a sample panel with your finish before production.

How much fibre is added?+

Dosage depends on fibre type and the mix design and is confirmed against supplier data and, for structural duty, the project engineer's requirements.

Why did fibres ball up in the mix?+
