Acrylic (PMMA) Casting Resin — Solid Surface Casting System

Allzone Trading supplies acrylic (PMMA) casting resin systems used in solid surface, cast basin and engineered surface production. Acrylic-bound surfaces hold colour and translucency better than polyester equivalents and are repairable by sanding, which is why premium surface producers specify them. Grade, filler loading behaviour and cure system are confirmed against supplier technical data at quotation.

Technical & procurement detail

Why acrylic instead of polyester+

Acrylic-bound solid surface holds colour and resists yellowing better than polyester-bound equivalents, gives a warmer translucency, and can be repaired in place by sanding because the material is homogeneous through its thickness. Those properties are the reason premium surface manufacturers pay more for the binder.

The filler does most of the work+

Solid surface is a highly filled composite; aluminium trihydrate is the classic filler, contributing bulk, appearance and flame behaviour. Filler particle size distribution, moisture and loading level control viscosity, surface finish, sandability and shrinkage. Any change in filler is a change in the product and must be re-trialled.

Process control+

Cast surface production is a controlled process: filler drying, dispersion, de-airing, mould temperature and cure schedule all affect defect rate. Voids, filler settling, sink marks and surface porosity are the usual defects, and all of them trace back to process control rather than to the resin alone.

Handling and ventilation+

Acrylic monomer systems require effective ventilation, ignition control and appropriate personal protective equipment, and their peroxide cure systems carry their own storage and incompatibility rules. Requirements come from the safety data sheets for the specific resin and initiator supplied.

Specification options+

Working properties are configurable options within this canonical product, not separate products. Depending on the family, that can include grade, viscosity, mix ratio, pot life and demould time, hardness, colour, particle size or fibre length, and pack format. No configuration is presented as stocked or approved until it is confirmed against the supplier's technical data for the exact material offered. Supplier grade names, factory codes and manufacturer brands are not published here.

What to include in your enquiry+

Send the product type (sheet, basin, panel), the filler you use, the panel thickness and colour requirement, your production volume and your existing process equipment.

Frequently asked questions

Why is acrylic used instead of polyester in solid surface?+

Better colour stability and translucency and easier in-place repair by sanding. Polyester-bound surfaces cost less but yellow more and look different.

Which filler is used?+

Aluminium trihydrate is the classic choice for solid surface, contributing bulk, appearance and flame behaviour. Loading and particle size are formulation decisions proven by trial.

Can these surfaces be repaired?+

Homogeneous cast acrylic surfaces are normally repairable by sanding and refinishing, which is a major reason they are specified for commercial interiors.

What causes porosity in cast panels?+

Entrained air, damp filler, inadequate de-airing or poor dispersion. Filler drying and de-airing discipline are the usual fixes.

Is this suitable for outdoor use?+

State the exposure in the enquiry. Interior surfaces are the mainstream application and outdoor performance depends on the specific formulation and supplier guidance.

Are technical documents provided before ordering?+

Yes. The supplier technical data sheet and safety data sheet for the exact grade offered are provided with the quotation, and the working properties in those documents govern — not any general description on this page.

What quantities are quoted?+

Quantities are reviewed per enquiry, from trial quantities through to pallet and full container programmes for production users and distributors.
