What basalt fibre is+
Basalt fibre is drawn from melted basalt rock with no additional binders in the melt. It offers useful tensile strength, good thermal stability and resistance to corrosion, and it does not rust, which makes it attractive where steel reinforcement would be a durability liability.
Alkali environment considerations+
Performance in cement depends on the sizing and treatment applied to the fibre. Because the cement pore solution is strongly alkaline, long-term durability claims must come from the supplier's data for the specific product and sizing, and important applications should be validated by testing rather than assumed from the material class.
Format selection+
