Why alkali resistance matters+
Cement hydration creates a strongly alkaline pore solution that attacks ordinary E-glass over time, so a panel reinforced with the wrong fibre loses strength as it ages. AR glass is formulated with zirconia content to resist that attack, which is why it — and not standard fibreglass — is specified for cementitious composites.
Premix versus spray+
Chopped strand is used in premix GFRC, where fibre is blended into the mix and cast or sprayed as a mortar. Spray-up GFRC instead uses continuous roving chopped at the gun, which gives longer fibres and higher strength. Premix suits complex shapes, small producers and thinner sections; spray suits large flat panels and higher structural demand.
Fibre length and loading+
Longer fibres give more reinforcement but reduce workability and are harder to disperse; higher loading raises strength up to the point where the mix becomes unplaceable and balls form. The working combination is a mix-design decision established by trial, with fibre length and loading chosen against the section thickness, placing method and finish required.
Mixing practice+
Fibre is normally added last, at low shear, for the shortest time that achieves dispersion — over-mixing breaks bundles and destroys workability. Water demand rises with fibre content, and correcting it by adding water rather than a water reducer weakens the matrix and defeats the point of the reinforcement.

Working properties are configurable options within this canonical product, not separate products. Depending on the family, that can include grade, viscosity, mix ratio, pot life and demould time, hardness, colour, particle size or fibre length, and pack format. Frequently asked questions
Can ordinary fibreglass be used in concrete?+
No. Cement's alkalinity attacks standard E-glass over time. Cementitious composites require alkali-resistant AR glass.
What is the difference between premix and spray GFRC fibre?+
Premix uses chopped strand blended into the mix; spray uses continuous roving chopped at the gun, giving longer fibres and generally higher strength.
How much fibre should be added?+
Loading is a mix-design decision balancing strength against workability, established by trial for your section, placing method and finish.
Why did the mix ball up?+
Usually too much fibre, fibre added too early, or excessive mixing shear. Add fibre last, at low shear, for the minimum time needed to disperse.
Does fibre replace steel reinforcement?+
Dispersed fibre reinforces the matrix in thin sections; it does not automatically replace designed structural reinforcement. Structural decisions belong to the project engineer.
