What the additive does+

A thixotropic additive raises low-shear viscosity while leaving the material workable under brushing. In practice the silicone stops flowing off a vertical surface but still spreads and wets detail when worked with a brush. It changes rheology, not chemistry, so the underlying cure system continues to behave as its data sheet describes.

Compatibility and dosage+

Additives are matched to a silicone family — a thixotrope intended for a condensation-cure base is not automatically suitable for an addition-cure base, and vice versa. Dosage is small and its effect is non-linear: too little sags, too much traps air and makes detail coats difficult to work. Always confirm the compatible systems and the dosage window from the supplier's data for the grade supplied, and run a trial batch.

Working practice+

Add and disperse the thixotrope fully into the base before adding catalyst, mix only what can be applied within the working window, and expect a thickened mix to hold more entrained air. The first detail coat is normally brushed thin and worked hard into the surface, with thickened build coats following once air-free contact is guaranteed.

Additive or dedicated brushable grade?+

For occasional vertical work, converting a pourable stock is efficient and reduces inventory. For continuous production of glove moulds, a purpose-formulated brushable grade is usually more consistent because its rheology is engineered rather than adjusted on the bench. Many shops use both approaches deliberately.

Specification options+

Working properties are configurable options within this canonical product, not separate products. Depending on the family, that can include grade, viscosity, mix ratio, pot life and demould time, hardness, colour, particle size or fibre length, and pack format. No configuration is presented as stocked or approved until it is confirmed against the supplier's technical data for the exact material offered. How much is added?+

Dosage is small and system specific, with a working window rather than a single figure. Follow the supplier data and prove it on a trial batch before applying to a real mould.

Does it affect cure or final hardness?+

It is intended to modify rheology, but any additive can shift working properties at higher loadings. Trial the exact dosage you plan to use and check cure and surface quality on a sample.

Will it make air removal harder?+

A thickened mix holds air more readily, which is why the first detail coat is brushed thin and worked into the surface before thickened build coats are applied.

Is a dedicated brushable grade better?+

For continuous glove-mould production, usually yes, because its rheology is formulated rather than adjusted. For occasional vertical work, converting a pourable stock keeps inventory simpler.
