What an accelerator changes+

An accelerator increases cure rate. That shortens demould time, but it also shortens pot life — the two move together. Shops that add accelerator without reducing batch size usually discover the mix gels before it is fully poured. The correct approach is to size batches to the accelerated working time, not to accelerate and keep old habits.

Compatibility+

Accelerators are formulated for specific silicone systems. Using an accelerator intended for one cure family in another can produce incomplete cure, surface tack, poor tear strength or no effect at all. Confirm the compatible systems from the supplier's documentation for the grade supplied, and prove the combination on a trial batch before committing production material.

Effect on mould properties+

Accelerated cure can shift final properties — hardness, tear strength and dimensional behaviour may differ from the standard schedule, especially at the top of the dosage range. For production moulds that must last, buyers usually run a modest dosage and accept a slightly longer cure rather than pushing to the fastest possible demould.

Alternatives to accelerating+

Before adding accelerator, check the simpler levers: shop temperature, material temperature, and whether a faster standard grade exists in the same family. A grade formulated for fast cure is generally more consistent than a standard grade pushed with additive.

Working properties are configurable options within this canonical product, not separate products. Depending on the family, that can include grade, viscosity, mix ratio, pot life and demould time, hardness, colour, particle size or fibre length, and pack format. Frequently asked questions

Does accelerator also shorten pot life?+

Yes. Faster cure and shorter working time move together, so batch sizes and pour planning must be adjusted at the same time as the dosage.

Can accelerator be used with any silicone?+

No. Compatibility is system specific and is confirmed against the supplier's documentation for the grade supplied. Always trial the exact combination first.

Will accelerated cure change mould properties?+

It can, particularly at higher dosages. Where mould life matters, a moderate dosage with a slightly longer cure usually gives a better result than the fastest achievable demould.

Is warming the shop an alternative?+

Often, yes. Material and ambient temperature strongly influence cure rate, and raising them is sometimes simpler and more predictable than adding accelerator.

Can it rescue a mix that is curing too slowly?+

No. Accelerator is dosed into the mix before pouring. A mix already placed cannot be corrected by adding accelerator afterwards.
