Fluff Pulp

Fluff pulp is a bleached softwood chemical pulp produced specifically to be broken back down into individual fibres. On the converting line the sheet passes through a hammer mill and the resulting fluff is air-laid into a core, usually together with superabsorbent polymer. Quality is therefore judged on defibration behaviour — how cleanly the sheet separates into fibres and how few knots and unopened fragments survive the mill — and on how the resulting pad acquires, distributes and holds liquid. Those properties are governed by the pulping and drying route and, where used, by debonding treatment; they vary by mill and grade and are confirmed against supplier documentation rather than assumed from the material's appearance.

Buyers ask for this material as fluff pulp, softwood fluff pulp, absorbent fluff pulp, hygiene-grade fluff pulp, and as fluff pulp sheets, rolls or bales. All of those describe the same commercial product and are handled by this single record — Allzone does not publish separate pages for wording variants. Where a term describes a genuinely different physical presentation, state it in the enquiry so the offer is priced against the format your line actually runs.

Roll-fed and sheet-fed lines are not interchangeable: reel width, diameter, core size, splice specification and bale format all affect whether material can be run at all, and they affect freight cost per tonne. Some buyer terminology for pulp presentation is used loosely in the market and is not a standardised technical description, so Allzone confirms the exact physical presentation with the offering mill at quotation instead of interpreting a term for you.

Fluff pulp is normally specified on defibration energy and knot content, absorbency behaviour of the formed pad, brightness, moisture and sheet cleanliness, together with the presentation. Allzone publishes no target values for these: they differ by mill, grade and treatment and are confirmed against supplier documentation at quotation.

Fluff pulp is produced by dedicated mills in several producing regions and is traded internationally as a specialty grade of bleached softwood pulp. Allzone sources against the enquiry rather than from a fixed origin, and no Canadian or other origin is implied for this product. Origin, mill, availability, certification and specification are confirmed at quotation against the lot actually offered. Origin is a supply attribute, never an assumed property of the product, and no fibre source is implied by this page.

Market pulp trades on an air-dry tonne basis — confirm the weight and moisture settlement basis in the contract · Quoted FOB, CFR or CIF; container and breakbulk depending on volume and presentation · Fluff pulp is bulky for its weight, so presentation drives freight economics as much as price per tonne · State whether certified fibre is required, because chain of custody must be contracted rather than added later.

Commonly relevant documentation: mill quality certificate / certificate of analysis, packing list, certificate of origin, bill of lading, and — where contracted in advance — chain-of-custody documentation. Availability of each document is confirmed per order, per mill and per destination.

Useful in a first enquiry: the exact pulp type and grade, the end use, quantity in metric tonnes or containers, destination port, the fibre or specification you must match, and your Incoterm. For fluff pulp also state: roll or sheet presentation with the reel or bale dimensions your line takes, whether the grade must be treated or untreated, the product the core goes into, and any brightness, moisture-basis, certification or documentation requirement.

Fluff pulp is a chemical wood pulp and is normally classified within heading 4703 according to its fibre type and bleaching state. Allzone does not publish a tariff line for this product until classification is verified for the specific grade and destination, because the correct subheading depends on the material actually shipped.
