Once a panel exceeds what two installers can handle or what the fixing system allows, the project either buys craneage or redesigns the product. Lightweight aggregate is usually adopted after that cost lands, not before.
Strength and mix design trade-off+
Replacing dense aggregate with lightweight granulate lowers density and compressive strength together, so mix design becomes a balance between weight target, handling strength and fixing requirements. Trial units and pull tests are the normal way to settle it.
Mixing behaviour+
Lightweight granulate floats, so mixing sequence and paste consistency matter more than with sand. Producers typically adjust the rheology of the matrix so the aggregate stays distributed instead of rising to the surface.
