Carbon Black Pigment — Deep Black Colouration

Allzone Trading supplies carbon black pigment to decorative concrete producers, cast stone plants, coatings formulators and cast polymer manufacturers across Canada. Carbon black delivers a depth of black that iron oxide black cannot reach, at very low loading, and it is used wherever charcoal and near-black architectural finishes are specified. Grade, dispersion form and stability in alkaline systems are confirmed against supplier technical data at quotation.

Technical & procurement detail

Depth per unit dose+

Carbon black has extremely high tinting strength, so a very small addition produces a black that iron oxide black cannot match. That efficiency is also the risk: a small weighing error is a visible colour change across a production run.

Dispersion decides the result+

Dry carbon black powder agglomerates aggressively and shows as specks and streaks if it is not fully dispersed. Producers running colour-critical work generally move to a bead form or a pre-dispersion rather than fighting the powder in a plant mixer.

Where carbon black is excluded by specification+

Architectural cast stone specifications require inorganic iron oxide pigments and exclude carbon black for that application. Carbon black remains a normal choice in resins, coatings, cast polymer and many concrete products, but it must not be offered against an architectural cast stone specification. Where the project is cast stone, iron oxide black is the correct material.

Alkalinity and weathering considerations+

Carbon black itself is chemically stable, but in cementitious systems poorly bound pigment can wash out or lighten over time as the surface weathers and carbonates. Exterior black concrete is normally designed with binder, water content and surface protection considered together, not with pigment alone.

Specification options+

Working properties are configurable options within this canonical product, not separate products. Depending on the family, that can include grade, viscosity, mix ratio, pot life and demould time, hardness, colour, particle size or fibre length, and pack format. No configuration is presented as stocked or approved until it is confirmed against the supplier's technical data for the exact material offered. Supplier grade names, factory codes and manufacturer brands are not published here.

Frequently asked questions

Can carbon black be used in architectural cast stone?+

No. Architectural cast stone specifications call for inorganic iron oxide pigments and exclude carbon black for that use. Specify iron oxide black for cast stone and keep carbon black for resin, coating, cast polymer and other concrete products.

Which form is easiest to run in a concrete plant?+

Bead and dispersion forms are usually cleaner and disperse more reliably than fine powder, but the choice depends on your mixing and dosing equipment.

Are technical documents provided before ordering?+

Yes. The supplier technical data sheet and safety data sheet for the exact grade offered are provided with the quotation, and the working properties in those documents govern — not any general description on this page.

What quantities are quoted?+

Quantities are reviewed per enquiry, from trial quantities through to pallet and full container programmes for production users and distributors.
