1. What problem does talc actually solve?
Talc is a platelet-shaped magnesium silicate used to raise stiffness, dimensional stability and heat resistance in polyolefins, and to reduce cost or improve surface in specific PVC and coatings systems. It is chosen for what its platelet geometry does in a flowing melt — not as an interchangeable substitute for CaCO₃.
2. Which industries actually use it?
Automotive interior/under-hood PP parts, appliance housings, PP homopolymer injection parts, sheet extrusion, packaging caps, some PVC and coatings systems.
3. Which processes consume it?
Injection moulding (dominant), sheet extrusion, compounding, film in specific cases (anti-block only, not filler), thermoforming.
4. Which products in Allzone connect to it?
- Filled Masterbatch (as talc-filled MB or blends with CaCO₃)
- PP compounds using talc for stiffness/HDT

6. When NOT to investigate talc
- When the primary goal is cost dilution at high loading in PE film → CaCO₃ is usually the correct answer.
- When you need whiteness/opacity → this is a TiO₂ decision, not a talc decision.
- When flexibility and impact are critical → platelet geometry works against you.
7. What buyers get wrong
- Treating talc as "premium CaCO₃". They are geometrically different fillers with different effects on shrinkage, impact and orientation.
- Assuming talc grades are interchangeable — particle top-cut, aspect ratio and surface treatment change the outcome significantly.
8. What should the buyer investigate next?
The specific property they want to move (stiffness vs HDT vs shrinkage vs surface), the process orientation, and whether a talc-filled compound or a talc masterbatch fits their line.
