Technical & procurement detail

Functional role of rumen-protected methionine in feed+

Unprotected methionine fed to a ruminant is largely degraded by rumen microbes before it reaches the animal. Protected products use a coating or matrix designed so that a meaningful share of the methionine passes the rumen intact and is released for absorption in the small intestine, which is why they are formulated on a metabolisable protein basis rather than as a straight amino acid addition.

Specifying the grade+

The three numbers that matter — total methionine content, rumen bypass and intestinal release — are product-specific and are not comparable across suppliers without the supporting documentation. State the ration, the target metabolisable methionine supply and whether the product must survive pelleting or TMR mixing, and the supplier confirms the corresponding figures for the exact product offered.

Documentation and specification+

Feed grade material is quoted against the specification your mill or premix formulation requires. Allzone confirms grade, declared content, physical form and any carrier or coating with the supplier before quoting, and shares the technical data sheet and safety data sheet for the exact material offered.

Frequently asked questions

Is rumen-protected methionine the same as DL-methionine?+

No. It is a coated or encapsulated product designed for ruminant delivery and is quoted as a separate specification with its own protection and release documentation.

Is this quoted as feed grade material?+

Yes. Feed grade is quoted as a separate specification from food or technical grade, with its own documentation for the exact material offered.

What packaging is available?+

Packaging is confirmed with the supplier at quotation for the grade and quantity discussed.

Can you deliver to feed mills across Canada?+

Yes. LTL and FTL freight is arranged across Ontario, Quebec and Western Canada, with container-direct supply for repeat volumes.
