Choosing Between Feed Grade Silicon Dioxide, Bentonite and Zeolite

Choose by the failure you are solving. Feed grade silicon dioxide for hygroscopic premixes at low inclusion, bentonite where you also want moisture binding and pellet durability, zeolite where adsorption capacity in storage or in the barn matters alongside flow.

- Bentonite — higher inclusion, contributes binding and pellet integrity, adds mineral load to the formulation, cost-efficient in bulk.
- Zeolite — porous structure, moisture and ammonia adsorption, commonly specified where storage conditions are difficult.
Cost is not the inclusion price
Compare cost per tonne of finished feed at the inclusion rate that actually solves the problem, plus the cost of downtime, rework, and rejected loads that the additive prevents. A cheaper carrier at three times the dose is rarely the cheaper decision.
Specification points to lock before ordering
Grade designation and regulatory status for feed use in Canada, moisture and loss on drying, particle size distribution, bulk density, heavy metals, packaging and pallet configuration, and lot traceability documentation.
Trial protocol
Run one variable at a time on one line, hold the ration constant, record discharge behaviour and dosing accuracy over at least one full storage cycle, and keep the retained samples. A trial without retained samples cannot be defended later.
