Ethylene Glycol Distearate (EGDS)

Ethylene Glycol Distearate (EGDS) is the diester of ethylene glycol with two stearic acid chains, and it is the standard pearlising agent of the shampoo and body wash industry. On controlled cooling it forms large, flat, highly reflective crystals suspended in the surfactant base, producing the visible pearl or lustre that consumers associate with a conditioning product. The optical result comes from crystal size and orientation, which is why cooling rate and shear matter as much as the ingredient itself. Allzone quotes this material per enquiry: grade, packing, origin, documentation and Incoterm are decided in your quotation, not fixed by this page.

Technical & procurement detail

What EGDS does in a formulation+

It crystallises on cooling into reflective platelets that give a pearlescent appearance, contributes opacity and body, and improves the perceived richness of rinse-off products. It is not a primary emulsifier and is usually dosed alongside the surfactant and thickener system of the base formulation.

What decides the grade you actually need+

The strength of the pearl effect and how it is produced in your plant decide the material and the process route. State whether you pearlise by hot-process crystallisation or by adding a cold pearlising concentrate, the surfactant base, the finished appearance target, your cooling arrangement and the documentation your sector requires.

EGDS against EGMS and the glyceryl stearates+

Ethylene Glycol Monostearate (EGMS) is the monoester; it opacifies more than it pearlises and has its own canonical page. Glyceryl Monostearate (GMS) is a glycerol ester used mainly as an emulsifier and has its own record. Cosmetic and industrial grades, flake and bead presentations, and packaging formats are handled inside this record and never published as separate pages; ready-made pearlising concentrates are a formulation route reviewed per enquiry.

Specification conventions and how to state yours+

Suppliers report active content, solution strength, particle presentation and impurity limits in different conventions, and the numbers are not interchangeable between them. State the convention your specification uses along with the property window you actually need, and comparison is made like for like against producer data for the grade offered.

What this page does not state+

This page asserts no purity, assay, active content, concentration, moisture, pH, density, dosage rate, performance figure, approval, registration, certification, origin, packing, minimum quantity, availability, lead time or price. Every commercially meaningful value is taken from producer documentation for the exact grade offered and confirmed in writing before order.

Sourcing and origin+

Allzone sources this material through producer channels and quotes it per enquiry. Origin, production route and shipping point are selected against your technical requirement, quantity, documentation need and destination, and are stated in the offer rather than fixed by this page. Freight, discharge point and packaging format move landed cost, so quotations are compared delivered to your plant.

Documentation supplied with an offer+

Technical data sheet, safety data sheet and certificate of analysis for the exact grade offered are requested from the producer and shared with the quotation. Handling, storage, incompatibility and personal-protection requirements are treated as SDS questions for the specific grade rather than figures published here. Where a declaration matters to your application — food contact, cosmetic, potable water, feed or regulatory — it is confirmed for that grade and intended use rather than assumed from this page.

How Allzone quotes this+

Send the process it goes into, the function you need it to perform, the property window your specification calls for in your own convention, the annual and per-shipment quantity, the packaging format your intake can receive, the documentation required per shipment and the delivery province or port. Several materials can be listed in one enquiry and reviewed together rather than split into separate requests.
