Technical & procurement detail

Functional role of cationic starch+

Cellulose fibres carry a negative surface charge, so a cationic starch adsorbs onto them from the furnish rather than washing out with the white water. That retained starch bonds fibre to fibre as the sheet dries, raising burst, tensile and internal bond, while also helping retain fines and fillers in the sheet.

Selecting the right grade+

Degree of substitution, base starch source and whether the starch is intended for wet-end or size-press use are the defining variables. Furnish composition, filler loading, system charge demand and existing retention programme determine which grade is quoted.

Documentation and specification+

Properties differ between producers and between grades of the same material. Allzone confirms the applicable grade with the supplier before quoting and shares the technical data sheet and safety data sheet for the exact material offered, so the values you evaluate are the values you receive.

Frequently asked questions

Is cationic starch the same as the modified starch used in food?+

No. Food grade modified starch is quoted against food specifications and functions; cationic starch is a paper process chemical defined by charge and degree of substitution. They are separate products on this catalogue.

Which grade will I be quoted?+

The grade is set by your specification. Share the target performance, process conditions and any customer or regulatory requirement in the RFQ and the matching grade is confirmed with the supplier before quotation.

What packaging is available?+

Packaging is confirmed with the supplier at quotation for the grade and quantity discussed.

Can you deliver across Ontario and Quebec?+

Yes. LTL and FTL freight is arranged across Ontario, Quebec and Western Canada, with container-direct supply for repeat volumes.
