Methyl Isobutyl Carbinol (MIBC)

It stabilises the air bubbles that carry hydrophobic mineral to the froth phase, controls bubble size distribution in the pulp, and sets how long the froth survives at the surface before collapsing. Frother type and dosage interact strongly with collector choice, air rate and pulp chemistry, so both are optimised together on your own circuit.

The circuit decides the frother: bubble size, froth persistence, selectivity against entrainment and behaviour in your process water all shift with frother chemistry and dosage. MIBC is an alcohol frother and is chemically distinct from polyglycol and polypropylene glycol ether frothers, which give more persistent froth and different selectivity behaviour. 4-Methyl-2-pentanol and methyl amyl alcohol are alternative names for this same material, not separate products.
