Technical & procurement detail

Where expanded clay filter media is used+

Expanded clay filter media is manufactured by firing clay so the granule expands into a porous ceramic structure. That structure gives a lower density than conventional mineral media and a high effective surface area depending on the grade, which is why it is used both as a filtration layer and as a biofilm carrier in biological filters. It is applied in drinking-water filters, wastewater treatment, pretreatment ahead of membranes and industrial water filtration.

Grade selection follows the filter design+

Different particle-size ranges are available and the grade is chosen against filter depth, filtration rate, backwash regime and whether the duty is primarily physical filtration or biological support. A coarse grade used as a supporting or roughing layer behaves differently from a fine grade used as a polishing layer, and a media suitable for one filter is not presented as interchangeable with another.

What to state in your enquiry+

Send the filter type and dimensions, current media and bed configuration, design filtration and backwash rates, treatment objective (turbidity, organics, ammonia, pretreatment), and whether drinking-water certification is required for the installation.

How specifications are confirmed+

Allzone does not publish assumed density, porosity, certification or origin values. The grade, particle-size range and documentation are confirmed in writing against supplier technical data sheets before an order is placed. Request the technical data sheet for the exact grade under consideration.

Frequently asked questions

What particle sizes are available?+

Several particle-size ranges exist across grades. The available ranges and the recommended grade for your filter are confirmed at quotation against the supplier technical data sheet.

Can expanded clay media replace sand or anthracite in an existing filter?+

It is used as a filter-bed replacement or optimisation in many designs, but the hydraulics, bed depth and backwash regime must be reviewed for the specific filter before any replacement is quoted.

Is the media certified for drinking water?+

Certification is grade dependent. Where a drinking-water certification is required, it is confirmed in writing against the supplier documentation for the exact grade before an order is placed.

Do you deliver filter media across Ontario and Quebec?+

Yes. Freight is arranged across Toronto, the GTA, Ontario, Quebec and Western Canada, and the delivery method is confirmed with the quotation.
