Saccharomyces Boulardii — Supplement Grade

Saccharomyces boulardii is a probiotic yeast supplied as a freeze-dried powder. Being a yeast, it is counted and specified differently from bacterial cultures and is not inhibited by antibacterial agents.

Enumeration methods and units differ from bacterial probiotics, and blending a yeast with bacterial strains complicates the release testing. Confirm the enumeration method used on the certificate of analysis.

Live cultures are specified by strain designation and by colony-forming units per gram at a stated date. Producers add overage to cover decline through shelf life, so the CFU at production, the CFU at end of shelf life and the storage condition must all be stated on the offer.
