Why a topcoat over epoxy+
Epoxy bonds and builds well but chalks and yellows under ultraviolet light. An aliphatic polyurethane topcoat keeps the colour and gloss stable, which is why the standard exterior and daylight-exposed floor build is epoxy body coat plus urethane topcoat.
Aliphatic versus aromatic+
Aromatic urethanes cost less and perform well out of sunlight; aliphatic urethanes resist UV and retain appearance outdoors. Specifying aromatic material for a sunlit surface is a predictable failure, not a saving.
Moisture, humidity and cure+
Polyurethane chemistry is sensitive to moisture during application, and humidity, substrate dampness and temperature all affect film formation. Contractors measure slab moisture and ambient conditions before opening the containers rather than after a failure.
Specification options+
Working properties are configurable options within this canonical product, not separate products. Depending on the family, that can include grade, viscosity, mix ratio, pot life and demould time, hardness, colour, particle size or fibre length, and pack format.
