Where SNF still beats newer chemistry+
Polycarboxylate admixtures give more water reduction per unit dose, but they are also more sensitive to clay, cement chemistry and dosage error. SNF is more forgiving and delivers a strong initial slump, which is why precast and dry mortar producers keep it in the formulation.
Powder versus liquid+
Powder is the standard for packaged dry mortar and refractory products where water cannot be introduced; liquid suits wet-batch plants with dosing equipment. The form is a plant decision, and dosage is recalculated on active solids when switching.
Slump loss behaviour+
SNF disperses hard and early, then loses workability faster than polycarboxylate systems. Producers with long haul or long placing windows either blend chemistries or plan the placing schedule around the loss curve.
