Licorice Extract — Supplement Grade

Licorice extract is prepared from the root of Glycyrrhiza species and is supplied either as a flavour-functional extract or as an extract standardised to a declared glycyrrhizin content. Deglycyrrhizinated grades, in which glycyrrhizin has been substantially removed, are a separate commercial material with a different formulation and labelling position.

Glycyrrhizin content determines both the sensory contribution and the regulatory position of a licorice extract in most markets, and deglycyrrhizinated grades behave differently in both respects. Decide which family your formulation needs before comparing quotes, because standardised, native and deglycyrrhizinated extracts are not interchangeable.

Block or paste extracts, spray-dried powders and liquid extracts differ in dosing, dissolution, carrier content and plant handling. Describe how the material is dosed in your process so a form your line can actually run is requested rather than the most common trade form.

State the Glycyrrhiza species and plant part, whether a standardised, native or deglycyrrhizinated grade is required, the declared marker and test method, the carrier, the physical form, and the destination market and finished-product category.

Keep the material sealed, dry, off the floor and away from heat, direct light and strong odours, and re-close partial containers immediately. Confirm the declared shelf life, the storage temperature the shelf life is based on and any re-test interval against the documentation issued for the exact lot supplied.
