Time is the product+
Everything a retarder does is bought with time: more time to place, more time to finish, more time before a cold joint forms. In summer production the difference between a usable and unusable load is often measured in twenty minutes.
Retardation is cement-specific+
The same dose gives different delays with different cements, supplementary materials and temperatures. Plants establish their own dosage curve by trial and re-check it when the binder source changes.
Over-retardation is a real failure mode+
Too much retarder can leave a surface soft for days, permanently weaken the skin or cause dusting. Overdosing is not a conservative error, and dosing accuracy matters as much as product selection.
Specification options+
Working properties are configurable options within this canonical product, not separate products. Depending on the family, that can include grade, viscosity, mix ratio, pot life and demould time, hardness, colour, particle size or fibre length, and pack format. Frequently asked questions
Does a retarder reduce final strength?+
Correctly dosed, it usually does not and may improve ultimate strength, but overdosing can permanently damage surface quality. Dosage is validated by trial.
Is this the same as a surface retarder for exposed aggregate?+
Surface retarding treatments are applied to the mould or surface rather than batched into the mix. Confirm the intended use in your enquiry so the correct material is quoted.
