PET Masterbatch

What Is PET Masterbatch?

PET Masterbatch is a concentrate — pigment or functional additive dispersed in a Polyethylene Terephthalate carrier resin — used to color or modify PET parts during processing.

Typical Processing Methods for PET

Injection Stretch Blow Molding (bottle preforms), Sheet Extrusion, Fiber Spinning, Film.

Grade & Concentration Notes

  • Melt-flow matching. PET is characterized by Intrinsic Viscosity (IV), not MFI. Match Masterbatch to the IV window of your PET (bottle grade ≈ 0.72–0.84 dL/g). Carriers must be dry and low-moisture — PET hydrolyzes.

PET Masterbatch typically uses PET or a compatible polyester carrier; a polyolefin carrier is generally incompatible and will haze the bottle. Food-contact grades require documented compliance.

Typical Applications

Bottle preforms (water, CSD, edible oil), thermoformed sheet, food-contact trays, textile fiber, strapping.
